Expanding the Universe of Universal Logic*

چکیده

In (Béziau 2001), Béziau provides a means by which Gentzen’s sequent calculus can be combined with the general semantic theory of bivaluations. In doing so, according to Béziau, it is possible to construe the abstract ‘‘core’’ of logics in general, where logical syntax and semantics are ‘‘two sides of the same coin’’. The central suggestion there is that, by way of a modification of the notion of maximal consistency, it is possible to prove the soundness and completeness for any normal logic (without invoking the role of classical negation in the completeness proof). However, the reduction to bivaluation may be a side effect of the architecture of ordinary sequents, which is both overly restrictive, and entails certain expressive restrictions over the language. This paper provides an expansion of Béziau’s completeness results for logics, by showing that there is a natural extension of that line of thinking to n-sided sequent constructions. Through analogical techniques to Béziau’s construction, it is possible, in this setting, to construct abstract soundness and completeness results for n-valued logics.

Evolution of Information and Complexity in an Ever-Expanding Universe

Using the usual definitions of information and entropy in quantum gravity and statistical mechanics and the existing views about the relation between information and complexity, we examine the evolution of complexity in an ever expanding universe.

Rotation of Galaxies within Gravity of the Universe

Rotation of galaxies is examined by the general principle of least action. This law of nature describes a system in its surroundings, here specifically a galaxy in the surrounding Universe. According to this holistic theory the gravitational potential due to all matter in the expanding Universe relates to the universal curvature which, in turn, manifests itself as the universal acceleration. Th...

Fingers of God a Critique of Rees’s Theory of Primordial Gravitational Radiation

SUMMARY Very long wavelength universal gravitational waves cannot now produce in clusters of galaxies velocity dispersions greater than that which these systems would possess if they were expanding with the Universe, if the Universe is not younger than 10 10 yr and Hubble's constant is not less than 50 km/sec/ Mpc. A diagram shows that actual velocity dispersions are significantly greater than ...

Logical Monism: The Global Identity of Applicable Logic

‘One universe, one logic’ takes the world as it is and leads to adjointness as the global logic of anything. The alternative approach to find a unification of known logics requires assumptions and is therefore consistent with the same conclusion for a universal logic has to be universally applicable. The universal characteristic of adjointness is that it has a natural construction from the conc...
